Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Wellbeing Day – Wednesday 11th June
Students are gearing up for the upcoming Wallington Wellbeing Day, a celebration of our school values. Students are encouraged to wear a splash of the colours of our values: Be Respectful - Blue, Be Responsible – Green, and Be Resilient – Pink. Remember that families are invited to take part in after school challenges and activities (3:20pm – 4:30pm) with a coffee van onsite. This follows a day of student wellbeing activities and celebrations in school.

Semester 1 Reports & Parent-Teacher Interviews

As we begin the second half of the term, we approach the Semester 1 reporting period. This means that teachers are currently compiling assessment information and curriculum summaries that will result in the Semester 1 reports for all students. Student reports will be published on Compass at the beginning of Week 11 and Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on Tuesday (1st July) that week. Further details and booking instructions will be explained in the coming weeks.

Junior School Council
The Junior School Council were excited to check progress on our new building, visiting site yesterday. The student leaders were specifically looking at the different inside spaces and providing their input into furniture and layout suggestions. Thank you JSC for your insight!

Long Weekend Coming Up
Just a reminder that the upcoming King’s Birthday Weekend is a four-day weekend for students. Monday 9th June Public Holiday and Tuesday 10th June Curriculum Day are both student-free days. This is followed by our Wallington Wellbeing Day on Wednesday 11th June.

Sponsorship 2025-2026 – NOW OPEN
We were so delighted to establish sponsorship partnerships from local and family businesses last year and are looking forward to continuing this program into the next financial year. We are now seeking sponsorships from the community as part of the 2025-2026 program. The details for renewal and new expressions of interest are now available (see link). Please note, some opportunities are limited. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school for any questions.

Class WhatsApp Groups
For anyone not yet connected with the class WhatsApp groups or for anyone who may not be aware these exist, this is a great chance to connect with other parents in your child/children’s cohort. These groups are informal and parent-run to help families share, connect and support each other throughout the school year. While we as a school strive to make sure communication is clear, we understand that life is busy and that it can be a challenge keeping up with everything.

The school is always happy to help clarify any questions and support in anyway we can, with our friendly and welcoming staff prioritising student needs and valuing collaboration and home-school partnerships at every level. The parent WhatsApp groups are an added layer of support that you may wish to take advantage of as we all aim to enhance connection and community that we so value at Wallington (see Parents & Friends below for links).

STEM & First Nations Studies

Dear Families,

Enjoy watching our latest video from STEM/First Nations classes.

Thankyou to the families who have already donated boxes for our STEM projects, it is much appreciated.

STEM still needs lots of small boxes and shoe boxes over the few weeks. If you also have any old matchbox cars and Lego figures that you would be happy to donate it would also be much appreciated for upcoming activities.

Physical Education News

Dear Families,

Netball Report

Our school was proudly represented by both a girls’ team and a mixed team at last week’s netball competition.

The girls' team played a total of seven games throughout the day. They started off with a hard-fought draw in their first game, followed by a close win in their second. Although they faced some tough competition and lost the next four matches, the girls showed great determination and finished the day on a high with a well-deserved win in their final game. Throughout the day, the team demonstrated excellent teamwork, supporting and encouraging each other on and off the court. While many students had favourite positions, they embraced the challenge of rotating into different roles, showing resilience and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

The mixed team played three games and came away undefeated, winning all three matches. They consistently displayed our school values of respect, resilience and responsibility in every game. Their ability to work as a team and their outstanding sportsmanship stood out.

As a result of their strong performance, the mixed team will now progress to the Division Netball competition on Thursday 19th June at Kardinia Netball Club.

We wish them all the best as they prepare for the next stage.

Congratulations to all students involved! Your efforts, attitude, and team spirit made our school proud!

Lightning Premiership Football

Lightning Premiership Football this year was played under 'AFL Nine's' rules for the first time. Students were a bit apprehensive in the lead up to the day, but put all those feelings aside on the day. Wallington PS was represented with a mixed team of Year 5 & 6 students, taking part in 5 games against schools in our district.

Everyone's biggest competition this year was the strong wind, giving the swimming centre end a huge advantage. The first game started well, using the breeze to our advantage with a 2 goal lead into halftime. The second half was tough, defending a well organised opposition attack, with an 8-point loss.

Game two was an incredible display of our school values - respect, responsibility and resilience. The team shared the ball around bringing everyone into the game in the first half, kicking 3 quick goals. The positivity was electric and the comradery was on full display celebrating every little win during the game.  Games 3 to 5 were against tough opposition. We lost games 3 & 4 by minimal margins and capped of the day with a well deserved win. The students were willing to play their roles, even if it was out of their preferred position, to the benefit of the team. The day ended on a high note, huddling up to sing "We are Wallington, the greatest team of all" (definitely a work in progress) and celebrating the successes of the day.

The volunteer umpires from Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College said that the Wallington PS football team was the most kind, respectful and positive team to play on the day by a long margin. This is the greatest win for the day as were instil these values each and every day.

A special thanks goes out to Leesa Hayward for goal umpiring our games and to Milly Peyton for being a fantastic Assistant Coach to Mr. KT.

Well done to all the students who participated on the day!

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities.

This week’s activity focuses on mindfulness and breathing. Students use a range of mindful breathing techniques as brain breaks and regulation strategies in class and this technique is a great one to add to their toolkit.

Try it at home by tracing the patterns in sand, making them out of playdough or drawing them on concrete with chalk. Get creative and see what happens!

Hello Wallington families,

After the success of last year’s whole school Welbeing day, we are planning another on Wednesday the 11th of June.

Students will spend the day participating in wellbeing activities with their class, playing games in multi-age groups and activities organised by our Junior School Council. After school there will be a range of activities for students and their families to complete.

We have organised a coffee van, The Brew That Is True, for the afternoon activities to provide us with a caffeine boost to keep up with the students' enthusiasm.

We will share more information about the day in coming weeks, so keep an eye out!
